| (WMR CCOE) STARTS STATEWIDE TRAINING |
The Ohio Department of Mental Health is supporting Wellness Management and Recovery Coordinating Center of Excellence (WMR CCOE) for persons with serious mental illnesses that receive services in Ohio's mental health system. CCOEs are statewide entities that seek to improve clinical quality by accelerating the adoption of best mental health practices in Ohio's mental health system. In collaboration with the Ohio Department of Mental Health, the project is a partnership between Southeast, Inc. in Franklin County, the University of Toledo in Lucas County, and the Lorain County Mental Health Board. Beginning in July 2006, Wellness Management and Recovery CCOE will pilot test the program with five mental health organizations. This best-practices training program will be available to community mental health agencies that seek to provide consumer-driven, recovery-based services. Cultural and linguistic competency is a focus of the training approach. The goal of the Wellness Management and Recovery CCOE is to promote good health and recovery from mental illness by teaching skills that empower consumers to: (1) identify and achieve personal goals; (2) develop informed, collaborative approaches to selecting and managing effective treatment; (3) achieve an overall healthier lifestyle. The Wellness Management and Recovery curriculum includes information on general health and wellness issues, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. |
